Poco F1: Unbeatable Price with Incredible Performance

Gone are the days when top performing smartphones were too costly and were dream of common man. With chinese manufacturers jumping into market and making affordable smartphones, High end specs are not tied to high end phones. You could buy smartphone with same spces with half the price of flagship device with only little compromises.

This market became more better with the introduction of Xiaomi’s new Pocophone sub-brand which out prices every other Snapdragon 845 phone on the market. But the general question arises in everybody's mind is if the smartphone really worth buying or what are its shortcomings? Lets find out.

Design and build quality:
The Pocophone F1 looks and feels simpler like the devices 2 years back. We cannot expect better finish with metal or glass combination, but the phone comes with polycarbonate back of the device. This could be taken in positive way as this plastic body provides better durability than fragile glass phones. Therefore this phone feels less premium than OnePlus 6 or Honor 10 but bear in mind its price which is more than 50% cheaper than the both.

If you like something a fancy, then you should go for top Pocophone F1 version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage named as “Armored Edition”, this model comes with a back made of Kevlar fabric giving more premium look. The buttons are made of metal and round fingerprint sensor on the back is also easily reachable. Following the trend of notch on the front, Pocofone copies the same but has thick bezels.

The Display:
The Pocophone F1 features a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels having 416dpi. This pixel density is good giving better colour but this not as good as OLED display which provides deeper black. Also you would face issue with viewing angles. The oleophobic coating on screen is not up to mark and glass will get covered with smudges easily.

Pocophone F1 specs and Hardware features:
The phone is available in three memory-storage combinations: 6GB/64GB, 8GB/128GB, and 8GB/256GB. All tvairents of phone are packed with Snapdragon 845 processor (10nm octa-core with Adreno 630 GPU). This is quite impressive for device with $300 price tag. Do not only go for the raw specs as the phone beats phones like the Galaxy S9 or Pixel 2 in speed tests. Additionally device has liquid cooling to help CPU maintaining temperature thereby boosting device performance.

Not only the performance but the battery is excellent too. A 4,000mAh unit will help running device for full day depending on your usage. If the device dies out no need to worry as Quick Charge 3 will juice the battery up quickly.

NFC is missing from the Pocophone F1 but USB Type-C port is a welcome surprise as device is prices so low.

Following the trend of face unlock the phone has an infrared-based face unlock sensor, which works fast, accurately and in all lighting conditions.

Pocophone F1 performance:
Speed is a big part of Xiaomi’s Pocophone F1 marketing campaign and F1 excels at it. With the top-of-the-line internals it’s fast and very smooth, with no lag or any jankiness. Also due to liquid cooling graphic demanding games work like breeze.

Camera performance:
Cameras are main selling point for any phone, the rear camera on the device is a dual camera setup comprising a 12MP main sensor and a 5MP secondary one for depth information. Camera performance is great in good lighting conditions and phone takes brilliant shots with a good amount of detail. The portrait mode is perfect with excellent edge detection. In low light pictures are overexposed and miss lot of details.

Front camera is of 20MP which use pixel binning technology to combine data from four individual pixels. This makes selfies packed in good details but don’t expect too much. Overall, the cameras on Pocophone F1 fare well as pictures are solid, but not exceptional.

Software:
Since Pocophone is a separate sub-brand of Xiaomi therefore it uses Poco launcher over MIUI 9.6, which is further powered by Android 8.1.

Similar to Oxygen OS in Oneplus Poco Launcher provides near stock experience to user. This will attract more users who like stock Android experience with more features and capabilities.

Xiaomi has promised Android 9 update for device is coming future, and Xiaomi tends to keep its promise as after launch phone has received major bug fixes.

Final thoughts:
Pocofone is device which is prices too aggressively and can take over your flagships easily. This is must buy device if you want device with top end specs in mid-range segment.
